The first Control Tower at Darwin’s military aerodrome, known then as ‘4-mile’ (now Darwin International Airport), was this simple open-sided box on stilts which stood near the intersection of the runway strips. It was constructed during the War and was operated by the RAAF.

Civil operations at Darwin were conducted at nearby Parap aerodrome until 1945 when the RAAF aerodrome became a joint-user facility.

This Tower was replaced by a new civil Tower in mid-1950.
